Long and depressing crime report at Take Back Your Neighborhood meeting

Lt. Marc Rutizer and community relations officer Mark Mroz, of the 2nd Police District, appeared at last week’s Take Back Your Neighborhood meeting.

Mroz recited recent crimes in the area, and residents seemed stunned at the number of crimes, the young age of some of the suspects and the attacks on senior citizens and youngsters.

In addition, there were 37 thefts from autos in the district from June 9-16.

On a happier note, National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fox Chase Recreation Center. The crime-prevention event will feature food and Phillies ticket giveaways. At 5:30, there will be a community bicycle ride. Participants will be entered into a raffle for a new bike.

On Aug. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., Town Watch is inviting everyone in the Northeast to a pre-National Night Out event in the Target parking lot, Bustleton and Bleigh avenues. The evening will include refreshments, music and information tables.

Also at the June 17 meeting, each person in attendance was welcome to share concerns. One of the top complaints was about absentee landlords.

State Rep. Jared Solomon will hold a town hall meeting on Thursday, July 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jardel Recreation Center, 1400 Cottman Ave. ••
