Council passes higher homestead exemption

Councilman Brian O’Neill’s legislation to increase the homestead exemption has passed unanimously in City Council. As a result, the homestead exemption will increase from $40,000 to $45,000.

Under the new $45,000 exemption, more than 30,000 enrolled owner-occupants in the 10th Councilmanic District will each save $629 annually.
