The 104th Lawncrest 4th of July Celebration will feature a day of activities.
Children 12 and under are invited to take part in a decorated bicycle contest. Kids should decorate their bikes in red, white and blue and bring them to the parking lot at Rising Sun and Devereaux avenues at 8:30 a.m.
The parade will start at 9 a.m. and travel south on Rising Sun Avenue from Longshore Avenue to Comly Street. The grand marshals will be members of St. William Parish, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. A Christmas in July float will be part of the parade. Santa Claus will hand out candy canes during the parade and will be available for selfies at the Lawncrest Recreation Center.
An American flag-raising ceremony, featuring the St. William choir, will follow in the grove near the library.
The day will feature games, prizes, a magician and T-shirt sales.
Other activities, all taking place at the recreation center, will include a flea market (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), food court (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), car show (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), children’s rides (10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.), live musical entertainment (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), bingo (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), raffles (drawn at 4:30 p.m.) and fireworks (9:15 p.m.).
The celebration will take place rain or shine.
Funding comes from residents, businesses and elected officials. Event organizers thank sponsors ShopRite, Wawa and the Philadelphia Protestant Home and all the local businesses and residents who make the day possible.
