Judge students can now take courses that count as college credit at DeSales

Students at Father Judge High School can now complete college-level courses for DeSales University before stepping foot onto campus.

Officials from both schools — including the Rev. James Greenfield, president of DeSales, and Brian King, president of Father Judge — and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia signed a dual enrollment agreement last week at Judge.

Under the partnership, students at Father Judge will receive college credit for courses in calculus, English literature and composition, environmental science, European history, U.S. history, physics and probability and statistics. Other courses could be added in the future.

“The collaboration between Father Judge High School and DeSales University is another fine example of our school leaders creating exceptional educational opportunities for their students,” said Sister Maureen Lawrence McDermott, IHM, chief academic officer and superintendent of secondary schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. “We are committed to fostering these types of partnerships, which are instrumental to our students’ success.”

The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales administer both Father Judge and DeSales, which is located in Lehigh County, making the partnership a perfect fit — in Greenfield’s view.

“On a personal note, I am especially excited about this relationship,” said Greenfield, who became president last year. “Having graduated from both Father Judge and DeSales University and now serving as the president here, I know firsthand the value and significance of being educated in an environment filled with the spirit of St. Francis de Sales.”

Added King: “This partnership is a natural extension of the proud and long history of the Salesian identity of our school. We are grateful for DeSales University for allowing us to provide such a unique and robust academic opportunity to our students who embrace their Salesian education.” ••
