The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced on Sunday that Our Lady of Ransom Church, 6700 Roosevelt Blvd., has closed as a worship site.
Our Lady of Ransom closed in June 2017, but was available for special liturgical services.
However, since then, there was only one such service, a funeral in the summer of 2017.
The parish merged with Resurrection of Our Lord, which maintained Our Lady of Ransom, but reported a debt of about $86,000.
The Our Lady of Ransom church building is the property of Resurrection. The future disposition of the building will be determined by the pastor of Resurrection in consultation with his parish pastoral and finance councils.
Our Lady of Ransom Elementary School closed in 2012 after 66 years of education. After it closed, it became the temporary home of New Foundations Charter High School. Today, it houses the Archdiocese’s Catholic Historical Research Center. ••
