Friends of Pennypack Park fills 43 bags of debris

Friends of Pennypack Park recently cleaned the Little City/Rhawn Street area.

In all, 38 volunteers cleared 43 bags of trash and cans and other debris.

The volunteers were Melissa Rosato and son Ben, Megan Miller, Jackie Pireaux and Marelyn Perea, from Oak Street Health’s Roosevelt Mall office; Pastor Joey Klinger and Cheryl and Mike Lafferty, from Redemption Lutheran Church; Shawn and Max Compton, from Boy Scout Troop 111; Joseph Anthony, with canine companion Kingsley; Jacob, Nathan and Elijah; Dean Lynd; Shannon Donahue; Ralph Smith; Robert McMunn; Rich Glaser; Edward Davis; Barbara Andress; Priscilla Campion; Will Toffling; Gerald Schlechter; Linda Davies; Jason Trenchard; Polina Korchagin; Ellen Driscoll; Lisa Green; Frank Gallagher; Roland Williams; Mike Kinkaid; Kevin Sweetra; Joyce Ferrero; Andrew Puzdrak; Patty Everly; Audrey Walmsley and canine buddy Missy; and Nance Kerns.

Jim Hunsburger and Mike Lugo from the city Department of Parks and Recreation came at the end to haul everything away.

The haul consisted of 38 bags of trash and five bags of cans.

Items included a doctor’s stool; a broken folding camp chair; two cell phones, a charger and a holder; a digital camera CD; a T-shirt; a golf ball; a bicycle tire and sign; rusted car parts and a tire’s sidewall; a sign advertising medical marijuana; an Aug. 14 copy of the Northeast Times; a piece of particle board; a mouthpiece for a vaping pen; a caution light; a piece of pipe; screening for plasterwork or concrete; and a porcelain urn.

The next cleanup will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the Torresdale Avenue entrance to the park. Volunteers are invited to meet on Torresdale Avenue, just north of Rhawn Street, near the railroad bridge. Friends of Pennypack Park will supply gloves, grabbers, bags, buckets, water and pretzels.
