“We cannot send them to Washington,” she said. ”It’s just not safe.”

Moore is a 66th Ward committeewoman who opposes safe injection sites and believes the city lacks police manpower. She wants to see jobs replace those lost at the former Nabisco, IRS, Northeast Auto Outlet and Island Green golf course properties. She said she is “not a fan” of District Attorney Larry Krasner.

City Council candidate Judy Moore was invited to speak at last week’s Parkwood Civic Association meeting by the group’s new leadership.

In other news from the Sept. 18 meeting:

• Civic association members voted 23-1 in support of a variance for the School District of Philadelphia to build a one-story office at 3801 Woodhaven Road. The property is home to a 50-acre school bus depot, and the office will house five administrative employees, along with up to 95 drivers. The proposal was presented by attorney Neil Sklaroff, of Dilworth Paxson. The variance is needed because the ground is zoned residential.

• Parkwood Civic Association supports Millbrook Civic Association’s opposition to a proposed hotel in the Knights Road Shopping Center. Developers won the right to build the hotel by lowering the height to 38 feet. Councilman O’Neill opposes the hotel, too.

• Councilman O’Neill’s offices will hold three events on upcoming Saturdays, all 9 a.m. to noon. People can come to Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, 11630 Caroline Road, on Sept. 28 to shred documents. E-cycling will take place at 7522 Castor Ave. on Oct. 5. A recycle bucket giveaway is set for Oct. 19 at 432 Rhawn St. Call 215-MU6-3422.

• Will Patterson, of state Rep. Martina White’s office, said White will hold a prescription drug take back day on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th Police District, 1701 Bowler St. Patterson also invited older constituents to order free tickets to White’s annual Senior Dance on Oct. 24, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the FOP. The event will feature food and music. Call 215-330-3711.

• An aide to Councilman David Oh discussed his student debt tax credit bill. The credit is worth up to $7,500 over five years for recent college graduates who choose to live and work in Philadelphia. For more information, call Oh’s office at 215-686-3452.

• Parkwood Civic Association will meet again on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The city election commissioners will be bringing a new voting machine, but will not be bringing it down the steps at St. Anselm parish hall, so the meeting might be moved to Community College of Philadelphia’s Northeast Regional Center. The group will also discuss a proposal to build six rowhomes at 3114 Byberry Road. ••
