St. William Parish celebrates 100 years

St. William school alumni, former and current parishioners, friends and Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary were among close to 300 people who celebrated the parish’s 100th anniversary on Sunday at the Philadelphia Ballroom.

The Rev. Al Concha, pastor at St. William, led the committee that planned Sunday’s gala.

The event featured dinner, open bar, desserts, a DJ, dancing, a silent auction, old photos and raffle baskets.

Lawncrest natives and St. William grads were among those at Sunday’s celebration.

The anniversary celebration will continue on Nov. 17, from 1:30 to 4 p.m., at Monsignor Mortimer Parish Hall, Argyle and Robbins streets. The afternoon will include food, music and art.

The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary received loud applause after each told the crowd about their connection to St. William Parish.

The celebration will end on Jan. 19, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in the upper church. Archbishop Charles Chaput will celebrate the Mass. Refreshments will follow in the parish hall.
