Former Eagles punter Sean Landeta was at Frankford and Cottman avenues on Sunday, as the Mayfair Business Improvement District sponsored a pre-game tailgate party before the Eagles lost to the Minnesota Vikings.
The WIP Go Birds podcast was live, with John Barchard and James Seltzer.
Visitors were able to spin the WIP prize wheel and get autographs and pictures with Landeta and two Eagles cheerleaders.
Landeta punted for 25 years in pro football, beginning his career with the Philadelphia Stars of the old USFL and later serving two stints with the Eagles. He won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants.
The party featured vendors such as Grey Lodge Pub, Factory Donuts, Dunphy Ford, Oteri’s, Stein Your Florist, the Monkey’s Uncle, the Inkwell 215 and the office of City Councilman Bobby Henon.
Visitors were encouraged to vote for the Father Judge vs. Abraham Lincoln Thanksgiving game in a contest sponsored by WIP. The station will broadcast a game involving the schools that receive the most votes. Among the six finalists, Judge/Lincoln has just 5 percent of the vote.
Dunphy Ford, 7700 Frankford Ave., had a 2019 Mustang on site. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the dealership will be holding a Dallas Cowboys Car Smash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $5 for three swings of a sledgehammer. The day will also include face painting, free hot dogs and soft drinks, special pricing on all vehicles, a basket auction and a 50/50. All proceeds will go to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 Survivors Fund and the Franklin Towne Charter High School cheerleaders.
On Sunday, Oct. 20, the WIP Go Birds podcast and pre-game tailgate party will return to Frankford and Cottman from noon to 3 p.m. WIP host and former Eagles fullback will be on hand. So will tattooed Eagles fan Rob Dunphy. Visitors can buy a “Storm the Heavens” T-shirt to raise money to fight Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma, a deadly cancer.
Later that night, the Inside the Birds podcast, featuring Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan, will be at Chickie’s & Pete’s, 4010 Robbins Ave., for a game-watch party as the Eagles face the Cowboys. Former Eagle Vince Papale will be in attendance. The cost is $25 for an all-you-can-eat buffet, drink specials and prizes. ••
