Burholme discusses crime, recycling bins and a supposed haunted museum

The Burholme Community Town Watch and Civic Association meeting last week touched on the following topics:

• Lt. Ron Janka, of the 2nd Police District, provided a crime update. Janka said two arrests were made following a homicide on the 7200 block of Bradford St. He said an arrest was made after three juveniles with a gun robbed five juveniles of their cell phones on the 700 block of Borbeck Ave. A man named Jeffrey Watson was arrested after an attempted burglary on the 7200 block of Rising Sun Ave.

• The monthly business spotlight was on Pennway Automotive, 1501 Cottman Ave. (entrance on Pennway Street). The repair shop has been open for four years. The owners offered everyone at the meeting a free oil change. More information is available at pennwayauto.com.

• The staff of City Councilman Brian O’Neill will distribute recycling bins on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon outside his district office at 432 Rhawn St.

• Ryerss Museum and Library, which some say is haunted, will hold a couple of upcoming events. Stephanie Hoover will speak on her book, Spiritualism and the Supernatural on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. A Victorian Christmas bazaar will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Craft vendors are wanted. Ryerss is at 7370 Central Ave. Call 215-685-0599 or email [email protected].

• The city will use new election machines on Nov. 5. Citizens can go to PhiladelphiaVotes.com for a list of upcoming presentations on the machines or for a step-by-step guide on how to use them.

• Burholme Community Town Watch and Civic Association will meet on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. at Wesley Enhanced Living, 7040 Oxford Ave. ••
