Outgoing lieutenant gives 2nd Police District crime update

Capt. Matt Deacon and Lt. Ron Janka, of the 2nd Police District, visited last week’s Burholme Civic Association meeting, held at Wesley Enhanced Living, 7040 Oxford Ave.

Deacon, who became commander of the district in June, made his first appearance at a Burholme civic meeting.

Janka was probably making his last appearance. He is expected to soon be promoted to captain.

Janka spoke of five robberies with guns. In one case, two men took $4,500 from a man leaving the Western Union near Bustleton and Cottman avenues. In another case, a man and a woman stole $300 from the 7-Eleven at Cottman Avenue and Pennway Street. Three men attempted to rob the AutoZone at 7350 Oxford Ave., but were arrested.

Among the 23 thefts from autos in the last month in the district, 12 of the vehicles were unlocked. ••
