Bad weather can’t stop annual Thanksgiving parade

Rain, snow, cold and wind could not stop the 43rd annual Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade on Sunday afternoon.

The parade route was on Frankford Avenue, from Rhawn Street to Knorr Street.

The grand marshal was music legend Michael LeCompt, and the parade featured string bands, school marching bands, military vehicles, dancers, entertainers and mascots, including a rare appearance by the Holmesburg Boys Club Tiger.

Elected officials on hand included U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle, state Sens. Tina Tartaglione and John Sabatina Jr., City Councilman Bobby Henon, state Reps. Kevin Boyle, Mike Driscoll and Joe Hohenstein and city elections commissioner Lisa Deeley. As the Democrats passed by the Engine 36, Ladder 20 firehouse, an off-duty fireman held up a sign that read, “Trump 2020. Impeach This.”

Santa Claus made an appearance, and his elves handed out candy canes and collected letters from children.

Scouts collected nonperishable food for the needy, and the U.S. Marine Corps accepted donations for Toys for Tots. ••
