Nine people were displaced early Monday morning after a fire broke out in an apartment building at Frankford Avenue and Sellers Street.
Firefighters from Engine 14 — which reopened on Saturday after being closed nearly 11 years ago to save money — responded to the blaze just before 3 a.m. and found heavy fire on the first floor and heavy smoke throughout the building, authorities said.Â
More than 60 firefighters responded to the scene, and it took crews about 30 minutes to control the flames, department spokeswoman Kathy Matheson said. No one was injured, authorities said.Â
Several local TV news stations have reported that residents saw people throw a device into a first-floor convenience store just before the fire. Matheson said the Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. ••
