Mayfair celebrates the Christmas season

The Mayfair Community Development Corporation on Sunday held its annual Christmas village and tree lighting.

The nontraditional tree, made of steel and vinyl cable, features bright white twinkling lights, illuminating the intersection of Frankford, Ryan and Cottman avenues.

Mayfair Civic Association president Donny Smith and SureShade co-founder Ron Russikoff built the tree, which was complemented with poinsettias at the base, holiday banners and decorations on light poles.

Santa Claus flipped the lights. He was joined by City Councilman Bobby Henon, state Reps. Kevin Boyle and Joe Hohenstein, city elections commissioner Lisa Deeley and the Marine Corps Reserve, coordinator of the Toys for Tots campaign.

The event featured vendors and raffles, and Trish Knopka and Nick Giannetti performed live Christmas music. ••
