The third annual Santa Sleigh Ride took place Saturday night, delighting residents of the 8th Police District.
The ride originated in 2017 when the 8th Police District asked Sarah Del Ricci, president of the Parkwood Therapeutic Riding Center, for a sled.
This year’s ride was quite a spectacle.
An 8th district police car led the way as Santa and Mrs. Claus and a variety of other characters stood on the back of flatbed trucks.
A sound system played Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, Winter Wonderland and other Christmas songs as the trucks drove along many of the main roads and side streets of the police district, traveling to every neighborhood.
The fun didn’t end until 10:30 p.m.
Frosty the Snowman, Elmo, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, elves and others joined the fun, tossing candy canes to children.
Many residents anticipated the caravan by following the 8th PDAC Facebook page, while others simply opened their doors after hearing the music.
Others who helped bring joy to people from Holmesburg to Parkwood included the 8th Police District Advisory Council, Teamsters Local 107 and Azalea Gardens. ••
