The Lawncrest Community Association last week named Times editor Tom Waring its Person of the Year.
The LCA presented him with a gift bag, gift card and citation for attending monthly meetings for many years, assisting at the annual Lawncrest 4th of July Celebration, promoting community journalism and volunteering for various boards.
State Sen. Tina Tartaglione presented him with a 2nd Senatorial District Certificate of Recognition.
The meeting featured plenty of food, Christmas music and an appearance by Santa Claus. ShopRite donated a cake.
At the start of the meeting, members observed a moment of silence for Ruth Magee, a 95-year-old local resident who died earlier this month.
The LCA, which had opposed a bid to increase living space from four to six families at 5750-52 Rising Sun Ave., received a scathing email from the owner, a black man, accusing neighbors of being racists for voting against his proposal. The man claimed to be from “Citizens United for a Better 9th District.”
Lawncrest Community Association will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. at Monsignor Mortimer Parish Hall, Argyle and Robbins streets. ••
