One person was killed and five others were injured in a pair of weekend crashes in Northeast Philadelphia.

Lisheerah Rankins, 23, of Fairless Hills, Bucks County, was driving at around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, on Roosevelt Boulevard just north of Grant Avenue when her car was hit from behind by another car that was travelling at a high rate of speed, police said.

The woman’s car jumped the curb onto the median and hit a tree before bursting into flames, authorities said. She was partially ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The other car, which was driven by a 39-year-old man, jumped over two medians and came to rest about 200 feet away, police said. He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and listed in critical condition.

Police said the man may face charges pending further investigation.

In the other incident, which occurred nearly 12 hours earlier, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, two cars collided on Knights Road near Dorchester Road in the Far Northeast.

A Ford Focus was attempting to make a left turn or U-turn at Dorchester when it was hit by a Pontiac G6, police said. The driver of the Pontiac, a 37-year-old man, was ejected when the car’s door flew open.

He suffered road rash and a cut to the left side of his head. A 37-year-old female passenger in the car broke her leg and injured her hip. Both were taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in stable condition, police said.

A 76-year-old woman inside the Ford was in critical condition with chest pain, police said. The 88-year-old male driver suffered hip and back pain and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

No charges have been filed. Police continue to investigate the crash. ••
