A judge dismissed rape charges Thursday against a former Philadelphia police officer who lives in Lawncrest.

Novice Sloan, 29, of the 600 block of Comly Street, was arrested Sept. 28 and had been charged with rape, sexual assault and related offenses. Following his arrest, Sloan was suspended from the police department pending termination.

In a separate case, Sloan is facing child pornography charges.

Municipal Court Judge Karen Y. Simmons threw out the rape case due to lack of evidence, according to court records.

Sloan is accused of drugging and raping a woman and then recording the attack, according to KYW Newsradio. His attorneys argued the encounter was consensual, the report said.

Jane Roh, a spokesperson for the District Attorney’s Office, said prosecutors are reviewing their options and may choose to refile charges. ••
