Democratic ward leaders in the 5th Senatorial District last week endorsed state Sen. John Sabatina Jr. for re-election.
Four years ago, the party nod went to state Rep. Kevin Boyle over Sabatina, the incumbent. Sabatina won that race by less than 700 votes.
Backing Sabatina last Thursday at Cafe Michelangelo were ward leaders Connie Dougherty (41st), Harry Enggasser (45th), Alan Butkovitz (54th), John Sabatina Sr. (56th), Pat Parkinson (57th), Jim Donnelly (58th), Pete McDermott (64th) and John Del Ricci (66-B).
Dougherty, Enggasser and Sabatina Sr. were with Sabatina four years ago. Butkovitz and Parkinson supported Boyle. Donnelly, McDermott and Del Ricci were not ward leaders when the 2016 vote took place.
Ward leaders Bobby Henon (65th) and Shawn Dillon (66-A), both of whom supported Boyle four years ago, were not at last week’s endorsement meeting, though Henon is backing Sabatina. ••
