A 29-year-old man was injured after being ambushed inside his own car Tuesday, Feb. 25, by a masked man with a machete in the Far Northeast.

The would-be robber hopped in into the backseat of the man’s vehicle just before 7 p.m. as he was inside the 7-Eleven at Byberry and Academy roads, police said. The suspect hid there until the man got back to his home on the 700 block of Waterview Lane, near Woodhaven Road.

At that point, the machete-wielding suspect popped up, and the two men struggled to gain control of the knife, authorities said. Police said the suspect fled the scene without taking anything.

Officers transported the victim, who had deep cuts to both hands, to Jefferson Frankford Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Authorities described the suspect as a 6-foot-1 white man with green eyes and a blonde beard. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a mask that covered part of his face at the time of the attempted robbery, police said.
