Learn about weight-loss surgery
Nazareth Hospital will host free community events to help weight-loss surgery patients achieve and maintain healthy lifestyles.
On March 10, Nazareth will host a bariatric support group to help bariatric patients succeed in keeping off weight and maintain overall health. The hour-long class starts at 4 p.m. at the hospital’s DiBello Conference Room A, 2601 Holme Ave.
On March 18, Nazareth will host a bariatric information session for the community to educate patients about weight-loss surgery options and support services. Participants will have the opportunity to speak with Nazareth’s bariatric surgeons. The information session starts at 5 p.m. in the Administrative Conference Room. Child psychologist speaking on Tuesday
Child psychologist Michael Bradley (wwwdoctormikebradley.com) will be giving a presentation to parents on real-world advice and strategies on how to improve communication with children and adolescents, establish effective discipline techniques and bring more peace in the household.

Film festival on March 12
The After Nightfall Film Festival, presented by Back2Ninety9 Productions, will take place on March 12 at Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center, 7 Lock St., in Manayunk.
The festival showcases three short films directed by Philadelphia-area independent filmmakers. It opens with Ultra-Girl by director Chris R. Notarile and Saturday the 14th by director Zay Rodriguez, followed by the world premiere of The Flower People by director Charles A. Christman III.
“We are excited for attendees to experience these three amazing short films,” said Christman, the festival organizer. “The festival pays tribute to the horror/thriller genre, with each director bringing their own style to the craft of filmmaking.”
Guests can walk the “Red Carpet” from 6 to 7 p.m. The screening will begin at 7:15 p.m. A meet and greet with the cast and crew will follow the final film. Admission is free for all attendees.

Judge presenting Little Shop of Horrors
The Father Judge theater arts department will present four upcoming performances of Little Shop of Horrors.
Show times are Thursday through Saturday, March 12-14, at 7 p.m.,and Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m.

Tax credits available for HVAC units
Homeowners can apply for up to $500 in federal tax credits when they install new energy-efficient heating and cooling systems in their homes.
The new legislation, passed by Congress in February, also makes the credits retroactive starting December 31, 2017. Homeowners who had eligible equipment installed in 2018 and 2019 can also apply for the credit with proper documentation.
The credits came about in large part due to lobbying from the Air Conditioner Contractors of America.
“We’ve been working on a much longer-term reinstatement of the tax credits,” said Todd Washam, vice president of public policy and industry relations for the ACCA. “This is a temporary victory. Our goal is to see it extended through 2026.”
Meanwhile, the credits can be combined with rebates from PECO for installing high-efficiency appliances.
Ron Musser, owner of ECI Comfort, which specializes in high-efficiency installations throughout the Delaware Valley, said these offers speak to a growing awareness of environmental concerns.
“When it comes to efficiency, we’re seeing more and more customers concerned about how their energy choices impact the environment,” he said.
Tom Brubaker, manager of communications for PECO Smart Ideas, said switching to high-efficiency appliances can save anywhere from 10 to 30 percent on energy bills.
“It’s often said that energy efficiency is one of the legs in the stool of the whole renewable debate,” he said. “Just by cutting back your use of electricity, you’re helping the environment, which helps all of us.”

Help raise money for Honey’s Angels
Honey’s Angels Super Cycle Saturday, a four-hour indoor cycling event for all fitness levels, will take place on April 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Northeast Cycle, 9910 Frankford Ave.
Individuals and teams of four are invited to join.
Teams of four are required to donate a total of $400. Participants will be given an information sheet to solicit donations.
Team members will alternate turns on their bike. Music will play, and water and towels will be provided.
Honey’s Angels provides food and supermarket gift cards to cover holiday meals for 500 families living in Philadelphia; sponsors meals at Broad Street Ministry; holds monthly birthday parties at Nativity BVM Place, a Port Richmond housing facility for seniors with limited financial means; and pampers struggling mothers on Mother’s Day.

Water Department wants to hear from you
The Philadelphia Water Department is welcoming residents to fill out an annual customer satisfaction survey that helps guide programs and services.
Any Philadelphia resident 18 and older who takes the survey at www.pwdsurvey.com or by texting @water to 39242 can enter a raffle to win a $100 gift card.
The survey is available in English and Spanish and takes less than 10 minutes to complete.
Residents are urged to take the survey and share their experiences on topics such as drinking water habits, water quality, communications preferences, infrastructure awareness, sustainability and overall perceptions of PWD.
Answers and personal information will be kept completely confidential. ••
Kids can sign up for running series
Healthy Kids Running Series, for kids ages 2-14, is accepting registrants for its five-week series.
The first race will be on Sunday, April 19, at 4 p.m. at Fluehr Park, on Grant Avenue.
All participants will receive a medal, race bag and T-shirt. Age-division winners will receive a trophy.
The cost is $35, or $40 after March 29.
