The Holmesburg Civic Association last week listened to two zoning proposals and met the community relations officer in the 15th Police District.
Members unanimously voted to not oppose a special exception for an existing tenant at 7600 State Road. The application was for wood pallet recycling and refurbishing storage.
Members tied, 4-4, in a vote on legalizing a bar takeout establishment at 7447 Torresdale Ave. The shop, open for 10 years, needs to add food sales to be in compliance. The vacant second floor will be used for seating. The third floor is a living space. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. There are security cameras on site.

In business news, Wells Fargo will be closing its branch at 8001 Frankford Ave. on June 10. A new Wawa is expected to open at Frankford Avenue and Academy Road in December. Demolition is expected to start soon in preparation for a new Wawa at State Road and Cottman Avenue.
The Mayfair Memorial Playground Friends will hold a dine-in fundraiser on Wednesday and Thursday, March 18-19, from 5 to 10 p.m. at Nick’s, 4501 Woodhaven Road. Twenty percent of all food sales will go to the playground.
There will be a cleanup of the playground, Rowland Avenue and Vista Street, on Saturday, April 4, at 9 a.m.
The Friends will hold a basket raffle fundraiser on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16, at Grace City Church of the Northeast, 8950 Ashton Road. The times are 6 to 9 p.m. on May 15 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 16. ••
