Parkwood, Far NE residents come together to help the needy

The community came out in full force on Saturday afternoon, donating thousands of dollars in gift cards and other items during an event hosted by Academy Injury & Health Center, 2808 Southampton Road.

People were invited to donate supermarket gift cards, food, cash and baby and personal care products for the needy. In exchange, they were given a protective mask. DJ Bobby Sacco held a drive-up-and-donate dance party.

In all, more than $20,000 was donated, helping to feed 55 needy families in the area. Leftover food was donated to a local food bank. ••
