Nazareth Academy welcomes seniors back to campus

Larissa McGovern picked up her diploma and was joined by her parents, Michael and Nancy, and brother, Liam.

Nazareth Academy High School last week welcomed seniors to visit campus, individually, to pick up their diplomas.

The girls arrived on the front chapel steps in their caps and gowns, which were delivered to their houses earlier this month. By tradition, Nazareth freshmen and transfer students walk up the steps on their first day of school to cheers and noisemakers.

Last week, assistant principal for academic affairs Patricia Quinn announced each girl’s name. The senior walked up the steps to take the diploma, which was on a table. Principal Jim Meredith took a picture of the graduate and her family. Denise LePera, the school president, was also present. A Naz News crew videotaped the week-long event, and a copy will be given to each student on Friday.

The girls were also given the contents of their lockers, and took pictures in front of their favorite scenes on campus.

All students have been learning remotely since March 17.

“We did not miss a day of learning,” Quinn said.

Josephine Nguyen is Nazareth Academy High School’s valedictorian. She is headed to Drexel.

The Class of 2020, which consists of 79 girls, will return to campus on Friday, May 29, as planned.

Friday’s event will start at noon. The girls will arrive in their caps and gown, according to homeroom. They will receive their yearbook and participate in a Senior Salute, with each girl driving in a car with her family along a designated course through the parking lot. Faculty and staff will stand along the course.

The senior prom is scheduled for June 30, followed by alumnae pinning and graduation picnic on July 1 and baccalaureate Mass and graduation on July 2. ••
