If you are a fan of high school sports, things aren’t looking too good.
On Thursday, Gov. Tom Wolf recommended not holding youth sports, which include high school sports, until January because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The PIAA held an emergency meeting to discuss Wolf’s recommendations, but ended without a ruling. Another meeting will be held Friday.
High school football was slated to begin practice next week, but the Catholic League pushed it back on Wednesday until next month. These plans could change again after Wolf’s announcement.
Assuming the PIAA goes along with Wolf’s recommendations, there will still be decisions to make.
The PIAA could just wipe out fall sports, or it could somehow schedule fall sports to be played sometime between January and June.
This would be the third high school sports season to be interrupted by coronavirus. The PIAA canceled state playoff basketball in March because of the breakout, and then nixed the entire spring season.
