The beginning of the school year during the COVID-19 pandemic is anything but ordinary, but one reliable constant is the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 donating backpacks and school supplies to students.

On Sept. 2, the first day students reported back to school, FOP members donated 150 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to MaST Community Charter School III, 12345 Roosevelt Blvd.

“We like to do this every year and we’re going to continue doing it,” Lodge president John McNesby said.

FOP picks three schools to donate to each year. This year it has also selected Greenberg Elementary School and is still deciding on a third. ••
