The Lawncrest Community Association last week held an indoor, in-person meeting, a rarity in the Northeast since the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The LCA had held outdoor meetings in September and October, but it was too cold on Nov. 19 to meet outdoors.
The meeting took place at St. William’s Monsignor James E. Mortimer Memorial Hall. After decades meeting on Tuesdays, the LCA held its first meeting on the third Thursday of the month and will continue to do so, as the hall is now unavailable on Tuesdays due to a religious education class.
At last week’s meeting, it was announced that City Councilwoman Cherelle Parker will hold an open house on Dec. 5, from noon to 2 p.m., outside the Lawncrest Recreation Center, 6000 Rising Sun Ave., to learn about renovation plans for the rec center and library.
Meanwhile, 25 Bigbelly trash cans and about 50 banners will be coming to Rising Sun Avenue, from Godfrey Avenue to Cottman Avenue.
Security cameras have been placed along Rising Sun Avenue and Castor Avenue. Another camera could be coming to the 1000 block of Devereaux Avenue, near Har Nebo Cemetery, where trash is often dumped.
The LCA will not meet in December, with the next meeting expected to be in January or February. Then, the group will consider a proposal for eight apartments at 6324 Newtown Ave. The site is zoned for single family housing. ••
