Boyle died Nov. 26. He was 68 and had been battling prostate cancer.
A Kensington native, he got his start as a doo wop singer on a corner and grew to love music as an employee of the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill.
Boyle lived in Voorhees, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife, Regina “Jeannie;” children Allison Darcy (husband Kyle), Evan Boyle and Rita Marley; and grandchildren Brayden, Shane and Marley Grace.
The Mass will be streamed at www.facebook.com/911motown.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s memory to Cape May County Survivors of Cancer, P.O. Box 266, Wildwood, NJ 08260. Boyle performed and emceed at a sold-out fundraiser each summer for Survivors of Cancer.
Boyle performed with his Motown, oldies and The Sound of Philadelphia group, The Violations. He also entertained at weddings, Atlantic City casinos and the former Babe’s Steakhouse in Port Richmond and sang the national anthem for professional sports teams. He also performed in the Northeast, Bucks County, South Jersey and Wildwood.
One of his musical partners was the late jazz pianist George Mesterhazy. The two opened for Pat Cooper at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino and played at Babe’s. Their recording, “A Little Romance … Now and Then,” included the song “Wind Beneath My Wings,” which Boyle dedicated to his wife.
Boyle performed popular music, with the great American songbook being closest to his heart. WPEN, an American standards radio station, broadcast songs from “A Little Romance” and invited Boyle and Mesterhazy on the air to discuss the songbook.
Boyle’s other musical partners included Bobby Pellegrino, Charles Sye, Johnny Ingram and his late brother, Jimmy. ••
