Bringing Christmas joy

Santa Claus and state Rep. Joe Hohenstein cheer as Samaje O’Branty walks down the ramp outside his home, with the assistance of event organizer Roxanne Schroeder.

The sixth annual Roxanne’s Run took place on Sunday, with the HellRaisers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and other clubs making toy deliveries rather than inviting children to visit Santa Claus.

The coronavirus forced organizer Roxanne Schroeder to change plans this year.

The motorcycle clubs met in the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts, 8902 Frankford Ave. in Holmesburg, before hitting the road.

Samaje O’Branty sits on a Harley-Davidson.

The first trip was to the Frankford home of Samaje O’Branty, 11, who is still recovering from being shot in the back of the neck in November 2018 by a stray bullet near Torresdale Avenue and Margaret Street. Samaje spent four months in hospitals learning to walk and talk again.

A 15th Police District car led the caravan of some 150 bikes to Harrison Street. Among those greeting Samaje were state Rep. Joe Hohenstein and Town Watch Integrated Services community support specialist Greg Bucceroni. Santa Claus gave gifts to Samaje and his siblings, and he had the chance to sit on a Harley. ••
