Hohenstein decries Georgia murders

State Rep. Joe Hohenstein expressed his disappointment in and concern for what he called the “dangerous” rhetoric and violence against “Asian American Pacific Islander” people.

Hohenstein reacted after the murder of eight people last week in Georgia. He said “six Asian women were mowed down by hate, misogyny and xenophobia.”

“The hate against Asian American Pacific Islander people did not start a year ago, and it’s not just committed by the type of people who would storm the U.S. Capitol with confederate flags on full display. What distresses and angers me to the core is the active participation and instigation of this bigotry by government officials like former President Trump … ,” he said.

The alleged killer has said he committed the crime, not because of race, but because he has a sex addiction and wanted to eliminate the temptation. Most or all of the women victims were Korean-Americans, not Chinese-Americans. ••

Bartos opposes ‘spending spree’

Jeff Bartos, a Republican candidate for Senate, described the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package as a “left-wing spending spree.”

Bartos said only 10 percent of the bill goes toward COVID relief and addressing the virus.

“Rather than providing COVID relief, Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer are bailing out failed governors like Andrew Cuomo, Gavin Newsom and Tom Wolf, sending stimulus checks to illegal immigrants and prisoners, and funding sanctuary cities and Planned Parenthood, along with various other liberal causes,” Bartos said. ••
