A Citizens Bank and an urgent care facility are expected to move to Frankford Avenue and Knights Road, where a gas station was recently demolished.

Members of the West Torresdale/Morrell Park Civic Association on Monday overwhelmingly voted to support a bid by an urgent care facility to move to a vacant site at 9998 Frankford Ave. (at Knights Road).

Last summer, the civic association approved a Citizens Bank for the same site, where a gas station was recently demolished.

Representatives from American Family Care came to the Christ the King parish hall to give their presentation. They promised the site would not be a safe injection site or methadone clinic, and they would not prescribe narcotics.

AFC has more than 240 sites in 26 states. This would be the company’s first site in the Northeast.

The zoning allows an urgent care facility, but the Far Northeast has an overlay that requires AFC to acquire a variance The company will be in front of the Zoning Board of Adjustment on June 30.

AFC will have a doctor on staff at all times, and believes it offers a better cost and a shorter wait than a hospital emergency room. The hours will be weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be 40 to 50 patients a day, so parking should not be an issue. The proposed waiting room is large. Anyone 6 months or older is welcome.

If anyone has a serious issue, staff will call an ambulance to take the person to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.

The only complaint came from a woman who said the site is too small for a bank and an urgent care center.

Members voted 31-4 to support the proposal. The board voted 3-0 in favor.
