Holy Family walks to raise money for suicide prevention

Holy Family University’s Social and Behavioral Sciences Association on Saturday hosted an Out of the Darkness Campus Walk, sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The walk was intended to raise awareness of suicide and mental health issues. It raised more than $3,700 for AFSP.

Walkers began outside the Campus Center, went along Frankford and Grant avenues and through Fluehr Park before returning.

Money was raised through raffles, fundraisers and food and drink sales.

The 2020 walk was held virtually. Saturday’s walk was one of the only in-person events approved by the university this spring.

“We’re super thankful we were able to do it and thankful for all the people who donated,” said junior Nina Danko, co-president of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Association. “Suicide is something that should be talked about more, so that we can collaborate and raise awareness.”

Donations are being accepted at http://www.afsp.org/holyfamily through June 30. ••
