Cleaning up Pleasant Hill Park

The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 21 last week teamed up with Eureka Metal & Glass Services, 9070 State Road, for an Earth Day cleanup of Pleasant Hill Park.

Volunteers from IUPAT D.C. 21 and Eureka were joined by state Rep. Mike Driscoll and City Councilman Bobby Henon.

The company’s Eureka Gives Back program chose Pleasant Hill Park, 9201 N. Delaware Ave., for its latest charitable effort.

“Let’s get some partners. Let me call Joe,” company president Terry Webb said of Joe Ashdale, business manager/secretary-treasurer of D.C. 21.

Webb, a former D.C. 21 apprentice, was joined by about 15 employees. The company has a mission to give back.

“We do volunteer work, activities that make a difference for people and make you feel good,” he said. “It was a good turnout. Hopefully, we made a difference, to some extent. We’ll be back.”

Glaziers Local 252 business representative Mike Laughlin was accompanied by D.C. 21 trainers, organizers and other business reps at the cleanup. He was happy to work with Eureka.

“We pride ourselves on partnering with our employers,” he said. “It’s nice to get out to do a park that people take advantage of.”

Volunteers used brooms, shovels, rakes and other tools to collect trash, prune, weed and trim bushes. ••
