City Councilwoman Maria QuiƱones Sanchez and others on June 1 celebrated the recently completed upgrades at Carmella Playground, 2100 Wakeling St. in Frankford.

Sanchez was joined by Orlando Rendon, deputy commissioner of the city Department of Parks and Recreation; Barbara Pippet, secretary of the Carmella Playground Advisory Council; and Tim Savage, Democratic leader of the 23rd Ward.

Thanks was given to Carmellaā€™s former and present recreation leaders, Kristin Hermann McKinley (now at Piccoli) and Elliott Hughes.

Improvements include new play equipment for ages 5-12, a sprayground, tree plantings, landscaping, tables, benches, hopscotch and an exercise track. The playground is best known for its popular skateboard park.

The cost was $636,000.

Sanchez noted that Carmella is the third Frankford playground recently renovated, following Deni and Simpson. ā€¢ā€¢
