Fun day at American Heritage
American Heritage Credit Union and 98.1 WOGL will resume the Car Show and Member Appreciation Day, with a simultaneous commemoration of The Kids-N-Hope Foundation’s 25th anniversary, with an on-campus concert performed by the classic rock cover band LeCompt. The events are free to attend and will take place on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 2060 Red Lion Road. The concert will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Attendees can also visit more than 40 vendors at a craft show, get a bite to eat and enjoy the return of the Gelatin Slide. WOGL-FM will be broadcasting around the campus before and after the concert.

Virtual bingo
The Sisterhood of Congregations of Shaare Shamayim is hosting a virtual bingo on Mondays, Aug. 2 and Aug. 9, starting at 7:30 p.m.
The cost is $36 per person and includes two cards for eight games of bingo each night. In addition, there will be a 50/50, at $5 per chance.

Roman/Hallahan outing
The Roman Catholic High School Alumni Association and the John W. Hallahan Alumnae Association are joining forces for their 28th annual Day at the Bay fundraiser.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 2 to 7 pm. at the Seaport Pier in North Wildwood, New Jersey.
All proceeds will fund scholarship programs for students of both schools. Hallahan closed last month, and most of the girls will be attending other schools in the archdiocese.

Rebrand of Medicare benefits enrollment counseling program
The Pennsylvania Department of Aging announced that the PA State Health Insurance Assistance Program, formerly known as APPRISE, has been renamed Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight, or PA MEDI. Pennsylvania’s Medicare beneficiaries will receive the same services under the same program, just under a new name.
PDA’s Education & Outreach Office embarked on a rebranding process to improve public awareness of the program and of the services it provides to Pennsylvania’s Medicare-eligible individuals, their families and caregivers to assist them in making informed health insurance decisions that optimize cost-savings and access to healthcare and benefits.
PA MEDI provides free, confidential, objective and easy-to-understand information about Medicare Advantage Plans, prescription drug plans, Medicare Supplement plans and Medicare appeals, and allows Medicare beneficiaries to compare plans and costs to determine what best meets their needs.
“The new brand presents a unique opportunity for the program to grow, innovate and connect with beneficiaries and organizations; tap into new populations; and to better accommodate the needs of beneficiaries,” said Susan Neff, PA MEDI director. “The new brand also supports the vision to be the known and trusted community resource for unbiased Medicare information. We welcome beneficiaries to call the PA MEDI Helpline at 1-800-783-7067 for Medicare-related questions.”
The program’s services are provided through Pennsylvania’s 52 Area Agencies on Aging by a network of almost 800 trained counselors in the commonwealth, many of whom are volunteers. Many PA MEDI volunteer counselors started off as Medicare beneficiaries with questions or concerns about their coverage who, after receiving assistance through PA MEDI, wanted to learn more about how they could share that knowledge with others. PA MEDI volunteer counselors receive free training about Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, Medigap, Medicare prescription drug coverage, appeals, fraud, abuse and more.

Thomas Junior High reunion set for Oct. 2
An all-class reunion for the former George C. Thomas Junior High School will take place on Oct. 2, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Galdo’s, 20th Street and Moyamensing Avenue.
Thomas opened in 1920 at 9th and Johnston streets. It became Mastery Charter School in 2009.
