A groundbreaking ceremony took place last week in anticipation of 30 new homes at 3600 Grant Ave., the former home of the Aquatic Fitness Center.
Zatos Investments and its construction team will be building 14 sets of twin homes and two single homes.
The homes will be 3,000 square feet and feature four bedrooms and three bathrooms. They’ll start at $549,000.
The fully customizable homes will feature three design options: the Torresdale, the Byrne and the Manor.
The creek will be cleaned, more than 200 trees will be planted and a public walking path will be created. The southern end of the property backs up against the John F. Byrne Golf Club. Entrances and exits will be on Grant Avenue and Fordham Road.
Zatos has site work to perform, with construction expected to begin in early 2022. The first of three phases will feature 12 homes and is expected to be completed by next fall.
At the ceremony, Zatos donated $10,000 to the Torresdale Playground Advisory Council.
The Jim Roche Real Estate Team is handling sales, and an information trailer is expected to be set up next month. Roche and Realtor John Capella are passionate about the project because of their ties to Torresdale. Already, dozens of people have expressed interest.
The Aquatic Fitness Center was badly damaged by fire in 2017 and never reopened, attracting trespassers. The building, which featured a swimming pool, has been demolished.
