Five local schools last week took part in TruMark Financial Credit Union’s signature Feed-A-Pig financial literacy fundraiser.
The educators fed a cracker to Raines by either their hand or mouth, effectively kissing the hungry, tail-wagging pig.
Participating were Pat Torpey, science lab teacher at Our Lady of Calvary; Sara McGilloway, first-grade teacher at St. Jerome; Jennalyn Whitley, education director at All Saints’ Episcopal Day School; Phil Carr, dean of students at Baldi Middle School; and Jeremy Beatrice, accounting and marketing teacher at George Washington.
The Oct. 6 event, at Abington Art Center in Jenkintown, raised awareness and funds to support financial literacy programs in local schools that participated. Funds raised will allow area schools to provide students with the tools needed to learn the basics of personal finance.
The event also featured raffles.
Sports-radio and podcast personality Marc Farzetta was the emcee. He is the nephew of longtime Our Lady of Calvary principal Sister Mildred Chesnavage, who was in attendance. Farzetta is a graduate of Archbishop Wood, which also took part.
To date, TruMark Financial has donated more than $350,000 to area schools in need of personal finance resources. The grants have been used to purchase resources such as calculators, computer software and textbooks to help teach the value of saving and the importance of managing money responsibly. ••
