Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 last week dedicated a plaque in memory of Capt. James Walker, a Fox Chase resident who died in April 2020 of the coronavirus.
The plaque is outside the FOP, 11630 Caroline Road.
Vita Walker, the captain’s widow, thanked FOP president John McNesby, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw and state Attorney General Josh Shapiro for their remarks and had a special message for her husband.
“I’m going to honor and celebrate you forever and, as you can see, so will the city of Philadelphia,” she said.
Walker, who was planning to retire in November 2020, served numerous assignments in his 33-year career.
“Jimmy shared his talents pretty much with the entire Philadelphia Police Department,” said Outlaw, who became commissioner shortly before Walker’s passing.
The Philadelphia Police and Fire Pipes and Drums played Amazing Grace, and a bugler sounded Taps. The Rev. Steve Wetzel, the FOP chaplain, offered prayers.
Also in attendance were plaque program founder Jimmy Binns, City Councilman Brian O’Neill and state Rep. Martina White.
A luncheon followed the ceremony. ••
