Gussie Leven, who lives at Oakwood Residence, a personal care community at 2109 Red Lion Road, recently celebrated her 103rd birthday.
Family, friends and Oakwood staff attended her party.
Gussie’s parents and older sister came through Ellis Island from Russia before settling in South Philadelphia.
Gussie worked as an administrative assistant, taught steno script and worked in the district attorney’s office. She and her husband lived in a condo at Bakers Bay for 45 years. While there, she was in charge of the travel club and acted in the community theatrical productions.
The secret to Gussie’s longevity is “praying, living life and a glass of wine each day or two.” ••
