Safety tips following Mayfair ATM shooting

Capt. John Walker, commander of the 15th Police District, is offering suggestions for people to be safe, following Monday night’s shooting and attempted robbery outside a Citizens Bank ATM at Frankford Avenue and Teesdale Street in Mayfair.

At 10:45 p.m., two people drove up near the ATM and tried to rob an individual, who suffered a graze wound to the arm.

Walker has the following suggestions:

• Stay in well-lit areas.

• Travel in groups, if possible.

• Do not leave your car running and unattended.

• Keep your head on a swivel when unloading your car of groceries, etc.

• Park in well-lit areas.

• Use ATMs indoors as opposed to outdoors.

• Avoid standing alone at bus shelters.

• Always be aware of your surroundings.

• Avoid walking while using your cell phone.

• Maintain communication with your neighbors.

• Trust your gut. If something doesn’t feel right, keep driving or moving.

• Keep your camera systems maintained and operational.

• Keep your homes and businesses well lit during the evening hours. ••
