Police make arrest in Rhawnhurst carjacking/murder

Police have arrested Jonathan Akubu in the Feb. 6 carjacking/murder in Rhawnhurst.

The incident took place on the 2100 block of Afton St.

At about 8:12 p.m., 2nd Police District officers responded to a radio call report of a “person with a gun.” Upon arrival, the officers observed an unresponsive male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and back. Medic Unit 12 responded and transported the male to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:02 p.m.

Police identified the victim as 60-year-old George Briscella, from the 1800 block of Lansing St., just a few blocks from the crime scene. Briscella was visiting his mom at the time of the crime.

Details are being announced now at a news conference at the Roundhouse. ••
