Hundreds of people attended Saturday’s Northeast Philadelphia History Fair sponsored by the Friends of Northeast Philadelphia History.

The fair, at Cannstatter’s, featured two presentations.

Louis M. Iatarola and Amarynth Ruch of the Historical Society of Tacony presented Disston Saw Works, Past & Present.

John H. Hepp IV, Professor of History, Wilkes University, presented You Can’t Get to Heaven on the Frankford El: A Centennial History of the Frankford Elevated (in honor of the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Frankford El in 1922).

In all, there were more than 30 presenters – local historical societies, historical organizations, historic sites, museums, authors and others – offering displays, books, photos, maps, prints, memorabilia and more.

State Reps. Joe Hohenstein and Mike Driscoll were among those in attendance. There were also drawings for a 50/50 and history basket.

The Northeast Philadelphia History Network meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. All are welcome to join. To receive email notification of meetings and events or for more information, email [email protected] or follow the Northeast Philadelphia History Network page on Facebook. ••
