Cleaning up Loring Street

Block Gives Back volunteers ready to get to work at Erdrick and Loring streets.

The Block Gives Back on Saturday completed its sixth annual “The Block Goes Green” initiative by cleaning the 4200 block of Loring St. in Mayfair, along with the adjacent 7400 block of Erdrick St.

The Block cleaned streets on each of the five Saturdays in April. Earlier in the month, the group cleaned the 2000 block of E. Cambria St., the 3500 block of N. 11th St., the 200 block of W. Lippincott St. and the 3000 block of E St.

Following the Loring Street cleanup, there was a block party featuring music, food, basketball, face painting, cornhole, chalking, Jenga and a giant Connect 4.

Next up for the group is a return to Feed the Block, a food giveaway every Saturday at its shop at 6831 Torresdale Ave. The feedings were on hiatus in April due to the street cleanups. Also, the group will perform Love Thy Park cleanups on the second Saturday of the month from May to September. ••
