St. Cecilia eighth-graders Shane Lachawiec and Emily Maciocha were honored at last week’s graduation with cash awards from the Kiwanis Club of Phil-Mont for their service to the parish.
Shane and Emily were scheduled to be recognized at the June 8 Kiwanis dinner meeting, but they were on a class trip to Hersheypark.
At that meeting, at the Austrian Village, the honorees were Matthew Guy and Eoghan Pleis, both of whom attended St. William Elementary School until it closed in 2012, then graduated from Presentation BVM and Roman Catholic High School.
The Kiwanis awards for Shane and Emily were presented at the June 15 graduation Mass in conjunction with best wishes for a happy retirement for longtime St. Cecilia pastor, the Rev. Charles Bonner, in the priesthood for 57 years.
Shane plays soccer for the Danubia Gunners, participates in basketball and track, coaches soccer and basketball, takes part in Catholic Schools Week activities and has been a Philadelphia Protestant Home volunteer. He will attend Roman Catholic, where he will play soccer and join the community service corps and ambassador program.
Emily was a safety, a member of student council, has taken part in CYO sports and theater and is a Protestant Home volunteer, reading to residents, giving them water and taking them to hairdresser appointments and outside to feed the fish. She will be attending Little Flower. ••
