The Lawncrest Community Association last week unanimously approved a request by the owners of 6410 Rising Sun Ave. to open an event space.
A Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing is set for Aug. 31.
The space, on a commercial corridor, is for fewer than 50 people. A Philadelphia Parking Authority lot across the street accommodates 20 vehicles.
Events will include showers, weddings and birthday and graduation parties.
The schedule will be Fridays through Sundays, with no event going beyond 11 p.m. and no more than one event per day. Security guards will be on hand after 9 p.m., and an attendant will discourage double parking. There will also be cameras, lighting and a sprinkler system.
No alcohol will be served, nor will there be cooking. Waste Management will collect trash.
The rental rate starts at $1,300.
