The Block Gives Back on Saturday hosted its annual Block 2 School book bag giveaway, closing off the 6800 block of Torresdale Ave. for a variety of activities.

The Block filled 1,000 bags with notebooks, folders, pencils, pencil cases, rulers, glue sticks, crayons and hand sanitizer.

The day also included a DJ, moonbounces, arts and crafts, snacks, drinks, grilled hot dogs and cheeseburgers, inflatable games and appearances by the Tower 38 fire truck, 15th Police District community relations officer Rachael Mahoney, City Councilman Mike Driscoll, state Rep. Joe Hohenstein and legislative candidate Pat Gallagher.

The Block was joined by more than 20 partners, closing Torresdale Avenue from Longshore Avenue to Knorr Street. ••
