Much-needed funding for Shaare Shamayim kitchen

State Rep. Kevin Boyle on Friday morning presented a check for $74,831 to Congregations of Shaare Shamayim, 9768 Verree Road.

Boyle encouraged Jacques Lurie, the congregation’s executive director, to apply for the grant.

As volunteers explained, the kitchen is in desperate need of improvement. They said the kitchen lacks heat and air conditioning, and repairs are needed for the freezer, sink, refrigerator, ovens and ice machine.

The kitchen is used to make food for the congregation and preschool children. In addition, there’s the Cook for a Friend Program. And volunteers bake and deliver cookies to local police officers and firefighters on Christmas.

All of the money is earmarked for the kitchen. ••
