Needy hoping for help

Local folks in need have been contacting the Times, and our 74th annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund — named in memory of our late chairwoman — is here to help them.

We are building the fund for the holidays, and our readers are already showing their generosity. All money collected will be used to buy gift cards for struggling individuals and families.

We’ve heard from a Holmesburg senior citizen who lives alone and tries to survive on a small Social Security check, a married Bustleton father of two with health issues and a Morrell Park man who is asking for help for his handicapped neighbor who is dealing with household upkeep.

For those who donate, we’ll publish your names. If you prefer to donate anonymously, that’s OK.

If you would like to request help, or if you know of someone who could use assistance during the holidays, write a letter to:

Eleanor Smylie Community Fund

130 Twinbridge Drive

Pennsauken, NJ 08110

Include a name and contact information for an agency or person for verification.

Everything about the process will remain anonymous.

If you are able to donate, please send a check to the Eleanor Smylie Community Fund at the address above. Any amount would be appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration.
