State money for Frankford CDC
State Rep. Jason Dawkins applauded the decision by Gov. Tom Wolf and the state Department of Community and Economic Development to award $500,000 through the Keystone Communities Program to the Frankford Community Development Corporation for site preparation activities at 5113-17, 5119 and 5129-35 Frankford Ave.
“The Frankford Community Development Corporation is a great partner to the residents of the district,” Dawkins said. “These mixed-use developments will go a long way toward promoting and improving quality of life in the district. I’m glad to see the state investing in our community in this way.” ••

Theater show at Glen Foerd

Published in 1934, The Ways of White Folks is a collection of 14 short stories by American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright and columnist Langston Hughes (1901-67). The collection addresses multiple dimensions of racial issues, focusing specifically on interactions between black and white people. New cancer researcher at Fox Chase
The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and Fox Chase Cancer Center hired Lucia Borriello as an assistant professor in the Department of Cancer and Cellular Biology at Temple, with a dual appointment in the Cancer Signaling and Epigenetics research program at Fox Chase.
Borriello’s research focuses on understanding how breast and lung tumor cells that have escaped the primary tumor survive in distant organs in a latent state for years, and how they exit dormancy to induce metastatic relapse. She is an expert in cancer biology, metastasis and imaging, which allows her to follow the fate and growth of individual tumor cells in living animals. Her research interests also include the role of the tumor microenvironment and therapeutic resistance in promoting metastasis.
Borriello earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biotechnology from the University of Teramo in Italy, then received a Master of Science degree in the biotechnology of reproduction from the University of Teramo and Queen’s University of Belfast, Ireland. She then went on to earn a doctorate from the University of Paris for studies of breast cancer biology and pharmacology.
After earning her doctorate, Borriello was a postdoctoral researcher studying the role of the tumor microenvironment in the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. She then completed another postdoctoral fellowship in which she developed her expertise in breast cancer dormancy in the Department of Anatomy and Structural Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. ••

Fox Chase CC has new doc
Fox Chase Cancer Center announced the hiring of Dr. Lindsey B. Taylor as an assistant professor in the Department of Hematology/Oncology and the Breast Cancer and Hematology Programs.
Taylor earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Muhlenberg College and attended the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. She graduated with her medical degree in 2016 and completed her internal medicine residency at Duke University Health.
Prior to joining Fox Chase, Taylor was a hematology/oncology fellow at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
Taylor’s research interests include understanding toxicities of cancer-directed therapy and improving quality of life among patients with cancer using patient-reported outcomes. She has experience working on projects in both malignant hematology and oncology and has authored multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals. ••
