Eagles fans hoping for another Super celebration

Eagles fans celebrated Sunday night at Frankford and Cottman avenues and hope to be back at the intersection on the evening of Feb. 12.

Thousands of people gathered in Mayfair after the Eagles clobbered the San Francisco 49ers, 31-7, in the NFC championship game.

Next up is Super Bowl LVII. The Eagles will face the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs, coached, of course, by former Eagles coach Andy Reid.

Both teams finished the regular season 14-3 and have won two playoff games. This will be the first Super Bowl meeting between two No. 1 seeds in five years, when the Eagles beat the New England Patriots, 41-33.

The game will be played in State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home of the Arizona Cardinals. Kickoff will be at 6:30 p.m.

Fox will broadcast the game.

Chris Stapleton will perform the Star-Spangled Banner, and Rihanna will headline the halftime show.

Caesars Sportsbook has the Eagles as 1.5-point favorites.

An Eagles win would bring overjoyed fans back to Frankford and Cottman. Donny Smith, executive director of the Mayfair Business Improvement District, decorated the triangle at the intersection with green lights and Eagles flags a few days before the NFC championship game.

On Sunday, horns were honking on both avenues as motorists made their way to the intersection. Trash trucks were placed at Bleigh Avenue, Wellington Street, Erdrick Street and Leon Street to block traffic.

While there were a few scraps and a couple of guys climbed traffic poles, the crowd was mostly well behaved, with a large police presence on site. Fans chanted E-A-G-L-E-S, waved flags and sang The Eagles’ Victory Song (Fly, Eagles Fly), sounding a little better than the Jalen Hurts version. ••
